Learn IELTS At Home - Introduction to IELTS Academic

IELTS or International English Language Testing System (Academic) is a very very important exam that every student willing to learn in a foreign country, especially English speaking country has to take to prove that he/she can communicate in English with the locals without any problem. There are two main types of IELTS. 

  • Academic - for study purposes.
  • General Training.- for immigration and work.

An IELTS - Academic Test consists of 4 modules. Here are these 4 modules:

Listening - Always the first module in an IELTS exam. It consists of 4 sections, equal to 40 questions. These sections are divided on the basis of increasing difficulty. 
Duration: 40 minutes (30 for listening + 10 for transferring answers to question sheet).
Reading - Always the second module in an IELTS exam. It consists of 3 sections of increasing difficulty. Overall, it contains 40 questions. 
Duration: 60 minutes.

Writing - Always the third module in an IELTS exam. It consists of 2 sections. First section is called Task 1. It requires candidates to describe a graph, chart, process or a diagram. Second section is called Task 2. It requires candidates to write an essay.
Duration: 60 minutes.

Speaking - Always the last module in an IELTS exam. It consists of 3 sections. First section consists of an interview of the candidate. In second section, a topic is given to the candidates and they have to speak about that topic for 2 to 3 minutes. In third section, examiner asks questions related to the second task/section. 
Duration: 11-15 minutes.
